I have some catching up to do! After we left Lafayette, we drove above Lake Pontchartrain and on to the Mississippi coast. We camped in Gulfport and explored up the coast a bit and then were off to Alabama.
Mississippi and Alabama have some lovely coastline, but not much of it! Before we knew it, we were in Florida. We camped at Dunedin and then pressed on to Fort Myers.
Because we were staying with my sister on Sanibel Island and then flying out for a family visit, we put the fiver in storage for two weeks (Cuzin’s Vehicle Storage was great and cheap).
Our Sanibel stay was lovely. We toured the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge by bike and canoe, enjoyed good food and good company with Kim and Bill, and relaxed at their lovely home.
On May 1, we dropped Abbey off at the All American Pet Resort in Fort Myers (highly recommend) and headed for the airport. We flew into St Louis where we met my sister Tracy and went to Southern Illinois to spend a couple of days with Tracy and Baxter at Lake Sara.
Then began a whirlwind of family-related activities in Wisconsin: Helping sort through the family home of 70 years, maintenance at the family cabin, a retirement party for a wonderful employee and family friend, a visit from our cousins, and a weekend at the cabin (where we joined mom’s ashes with dad’s).
Then we flew back to Fort Myers and retrieved Abbey and the fiver and headed for Miami…
